Colts are overrated

Indianapolis ColtsIt may sound crazy to write, but the 11-0 Colts, a team that has yet to lose a game in the 2009 football wagering season and run by perhaps the best QB to ever play in the league, are overrated. You read that correctly, it wasn’t a typo.

This Colts teams despite its stellar record, tremendous offense and likely NFL MVP under center is the Emperor without his new clothes.

The Colts are a very good team, there is no disputing that but it is not a legitimate football wagering Super Bowl challenger.

In fact, there are likely several teams that are better, yet much of the pro football wagering world still speaks of this squad as if it’s right there with the Saints or Vikings. Make no mistake, it is not.

Any team with Peyton Manning at the helm has to be respected and can win on virtually any given day.  But as a team the Colts simply do not stack up against squads like the Saints, Vikings or perhaps even the Chargers or Bengals.

The passing game is not in doubt.  But there are plenty of weaknesses on offense including the running game which is dreadful.

In addition to that the team has only receiver (Reggie Wayne) that can’t be handled in man coverage and any team with an above average set of safeties can keep TE Dallas Clark in check.

On defense this unit can certainly put pressure on a QB but it’s small in stature and can be bull-dozed by a good running club, which turn eats up time and keeps the ball out of Manning’s hands.

The team’s biggest win was a game they should have lost against a good but not great Pats squad.  The Colts opponents this season have been awful and that in turn has inflated the team’s record.

This Indy squad is good but may not even win a single NFL wagering playoff game.
